[uf-dev] whitespace handling

Some properties in microformats are defined to have whitespace
preserved, others are not. For the ones that are not, its not
entirely clear how whitespace should be handled. Brian Suda and I
have discussed this a bit this afternoon [http://rbach.priv.at/
Microformats-IRC/2006-06-15#T000449], but haven't come to any
conclusions.
Here's my questions:
1. Should empty text nodes be ignored?
2. Or should those text nodes be collapsed into a single space?
3. Should values be trimmed (ie, whitespace removed from beginning
and end)?
I'm sure there'll be more questions, too. I ask now, because our
hCard tests [http://microformats.org/tests/hcard/] reflect the
answers [no, no, yes] to the questions above. If we decide on another
approach, I'd like to change the tests sooner rather than later.
thanks,
ryan
