This is actually *a good thing*.

We want far more use of existing microformats than invention of new
microformats.

Using microformats should be as easy as possible.

Making new microformats should be filtered hopefully as effectively as
possible in order to keep to the "micro" aspect.

This is definitely true.  But the process is only important to a small
handful of people, those that are working on or developing microformats.
We're the minority :)  We need to focus our efforts first and foremost on
the usability of the microformats themselves.
