But that's not what's being rendered. The HTML content between the
paired tags is:

        <abbr class="updated entry-title"title="2006-09-20">
        20th</abbr>: [text]

and it's being rendered as:

        <abbr class="updated entry-title">
        title="2006-09-20">20th</abbr>

Where did the ": [text]" go?

It's in the "title"!
