   I plan using semantic xhtml (hi Ben) to represent some genealogical data.
   I can think of many exemples of posssibly empty list.
   Result of a search request for someone named "xhtml" :
   <ul class="search-result">
   </ul>

   List of documents related to an individual,...

Ben,

   A  empty list represents a data set which happen to be empty but may have
contains some items.
   I agree it can be represented as an absence of list. But an empty list can be
more explicit.
