Similar to rel-tag, though typically rel-category destinations are
- chosen from an explicitly maintained taxonomy
- typically intended for the context of a single site or blog
Whereas rel-tag destinations / segments are typically open ended (no explicit taxonomy), and typically intended for use / understanding within a more global context, across sites and services (see also hashtag).
May be used with rel-tag. If a hyperlink destination / segment reflects both a tag and a category for the current blog post or page, then it makes sense to use both, e.g. with rel="category tag"
on the hyperlink.
