UIDs can be used as tags. For example, LSIDs for living organisms; as used in the examples on http://darwin.zoology.gla.ac.uk/~rpage/lsid/tester/ - if, instead of

that could use:

then the fragments to the right of the final slash could be used as tags and the links could be marked-up using "rel-tag" so that people could tag pages (in blogs, for example) or pictures (on, say, Flickr) of the organism concerned with a tag of:
 +
 +
:lsid:ubio.org:namebank:11815
 +

thereby adding discoverability, without reducing or changing any of the current uses of LSIDs.

UIDs

UIDs can be used as tags. For example, LSIDs for living organisms; as used in the examples on http://darwin.zoology.gla.ac.uk/~rpage/lsid/tester/ - if, instead of

.../tester/?q=urn:lsid:ubio.org:namebank:11815

that could use:

.../tester/urn:lsid:ubio.org:namebank:11815

or just:

.../tester/lsid:ubio.org:namebank:11815

then the fragments to the right of the final slash could be used as tags and the links could be marked-up using "rel-tag" so that people could tag pages (in blogs, for example) or pictures (on, say, Flickr) of the organism concerned with a tag of:

lsid:ubio.org:namebank:11815

thereby adding discoverability, without reducing or changing any of the current uses of LSIDs.

The rel-tag specification is a work in progress. As additional aspects are discussed, understood, and written, they will be added. These thoughts, issues, and questions are kept in separate pages.
