Hello, and welcome to the microformats 'wiki'. You might like to tell us something about yourself, on [[User:CyndyParr|your user page]], as I have done on mine.
I am still not sure if I am a scientist or an engineer. My doctorate is in biology and my primary interests are in behavior, ecology, and evolution (other keywords: bioacoustics, birds, cooperative breeding). On the other hand, my research for the last eight years or so has almost exclusively been in human-computer interaction and semantic web technology. Always my interest in technology serves my favorite biological domains. Except for a short time when I acted as a systems administrator for a large multi-national financial company.

You can sign comments on 'wiki' pages with three tildes (<nowiki>~</nowiki>); using four will append the date and time.
Currently I hold two research faculty positions where I lead small teams of programmers on a variety of biodiversity-related projects.

I have made a [species-brainstorming#Response_by_Andy_Mabbett|reply to your comments on my species proposal].

My background

I am still not sure if I am a scientist or an engineer. My doctorate is in biology and my primary interests are in behavior, ecology, and evolution (other keywords: bioacoustics, birds, cooperative breeding). On the other hand, my research for the last eight years or so has almost exclusively been in human-computer interaction and semantic web technology. Always my interest in technology serves my favorite biological domains. Except for a short time when I acted as a systems administrator for a large multi-national financial company.

Currently I hold two research faculty positions where I lead small teams of programmers on a variety of biodiversity-related projects.

My philosophy

  • Collaboration
  • Bottom-up over top-down
  • Darwinian
  • Structured over unstructured
  • Informal over formal
  • Good enough over perfect
  • Transparency

More

My webpage should provide ample linkage.

I agree to release all my text and image contributions (past, present and future), into the public domain*. Please be aware that other contributors might not have done the same, so if you want to use pages with my contributions under public domain terms, please check past contributors' user pages.
