This page documents the effort to define a microformat for identifiers. Identifiers are currently found all over the web but not in a predictable way. Examples of identifiers include ISBN, ISSN UPC, ASIN, MusicBrainz IDs. Indeed it could be argued that URLs themselves are identifiers in the abstract.
