This page documents the effort to define a microformat for identifiers. Identifiers are currently found all over the web but not in a predictable way. Examples of identifiers include ISBN, ISSN UPC, ASIN, MusicBrainz IDs. Indeed it could be argued that URLs themselves are identifiers in the abstract. How cool would it be to able to identify these and resolve them? Welcome to the dream of the semantic web.
