Microformats adalah cara menambahkan penandaan sederhana agar tiap data mudah terbaca oleh manusia seperti peristiwa, rincian kontak atau lokasi, pada halaman web sehingga informasi di dalamnya dapat di ekstraksi oleh perangkat lunak dan diindeks, dicari, disimpan, pertukaran-referensi, atau dikombinasi.
 
More technically, they are items of semantic markup, using just standard "plain old semantic (X)HTML" (i.e. "[[POSH]]") with a set of common [[class-names]] and "[[rel]]" values. They are open and available, freely, for anyone to use.
