rel=discussion is proposed method for linking from a document to a place where there is discussion about the document.

Publishers

In a document that has a specific venue for discussion (e.g. web forum, email archives, IRC channel), the hyperlink from the document to the venue for discussion should be marked up with the rel value discussion.

Examples:

  • W3C spec which links to the email list archives where the spec is discussed
  • Mediawiki pages which link to their Talk pages

Consumers

Browsers that detect a rel=discussion hyperlink in a page can implement a UI for navigating from that page to the discussion about it with a "View Discussion" menu/command.
