Link type "external"

The sidebar keyword may be used with a and area elements. This keyword creates a hyperlink.

The external keyword indicates that the link is leading to a document that is not part of the site that the current document forms a part of.

As of around 2006, this was the fifth and sixth most used rel value (sixth strictly being "external nofollow").
