I just exported an iCal file from iCal.app which includes this:

RRULE:FREQ=WEEKLY;INTERVAL=1;UNTIL=20050915T065959Z

This was an event which was created in iCal.app, so it appears
there's at least some support.

Really? I do this all the time.
