And to add a few more things:

* if starting a new thread, don't reply to an existing one- many mail  
clients are not smart enough to figure out that a new thread was  
started and will group unrelated topics together

* if you find that you're going back in forth in rapid discussion,  
try to take it to IRC, you'll get things done quicker and save on  
some list traffic
