1. The <abbr> pattern only works with the <abbr> element - not the  
<td> element.
2. The "T" in those dates shouldn't be there. "T" is only used as a  
separator for the date and time in a datetime.

Try:

<td><abbr class="rdate" title="2009-08-09">9th</abbr></td>
